Grants and Programs

APARRI supports the growth and development of scholarship and public knowledge on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) religions through grant programs and other initiatives. These initiatives serve three primary interrelated functions: building and diversifying scholarship, strengthening the academic pipeline, and promoting public engagement.

Our grants and programs are generously supported by the Henry Luce Foundation and Lilly Endowment Inc.

APARRI Research Grant supports scholarship that advances the scholarly and public knowledge of Asian Pacific American religions.

Research Grants

Competitive grants that support new research projects on AAPI religions, with priority given to pre-tenure faculty and projects that address understudied groups, topics, and communities. Funding may be used for research expenses, including support for research leave and sabbaticals.

APARRI Working Group Grant supports collaborations that advance the scholarly and public knowledge of Asian Pacific American religions.

Working Group Grants

Competitive grants that support small scholarly working groups focused on a topical theme in AAPI religions. Working groups collaborate to produce a tangible outcome that advances scholarly and public understanding of AAPI religions, such as an edited volume, co-authored article, podcast series, or public symposium.

Book Fellows Program

Structured program for scholars developing monographs on AAPI religions. Program includes manuscript workshops, developmental editing, peer feedback, and publishing support to advance their books toward publication.

APARRI Media Fellows Program is a public scholarship training program for 12 scholars of Asian Pacific American religions.

Media Fellows Program

Workshop and support for scholars of AAPI religions focused on sharing their research with broader public audiences. Participants receive training in public writing, media engagement, and effective use of social media platforms to communicate scholarly insights beyond academia.
