APARRI 2023 Registration

Registration and Housing

Please join us for APARRI 2023 on June 20-22 at UC Berkeley. We invite the APARRI community to reflect upon our radical past as we envision radical futures in Asian Pacific American religions and communities. What revolutionary hopes and dreams do we have? How can we break out of conventional ways of thinking and imagine new worlds or possibilities? What is – or should be – the future of Asian Pacific American religious studies? We are accepting paper and panel proposals until March 31, 2023.

APARRI 2023 opens on June 20 at 4 pm with Gene Luen Yang’s keynote address and closes in the evening on June 22 with our traditional banquet. The full conference schedule will be available by mid-May. Starting June 21, meeting events will be held at The Faculty Club on the UC Berkeley campus. Please note that our meeting room is on the second floor of a historic building. Meeting participants must be able to ascend and descend stairs–there is no elevator access. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.

We invite you to submit a paper or panel proposal by the March 31, 2023 deadline.

REGISTRATION FOR APARRI 2023 IS NOW FULL. PLEASE EMAIL US TO BE PLACED ON THE WAITLIST.

His graphic novel, American Born Chinese is being adapted to a tv series with Disney +. Registration Information

Registration will cover all meals (except for dinner on June 21) and all conference activities. All participants must register. Space is limited to 80 attendees, please register early.

Registration Fees: early/regular

Early Registration Deadline: May 15, 2023

Registrants after June 1 are not guaranteed meals.

Meeting participants have two options for lodging during the APARRI meeting: UC Berkeley dorm housing or the Bancroft Hotel. Please reserve early, as space is limited.

UC Berkeley Dorm Housing: We encourage all out-of-town APARRI participants to stay at the Towle Mini-Suites, which is a 10-minute walk (for most guests) to our meeting location at the Faculty Club. Each 3-person mini-suite consists of two spacious bedrooms, plus its own bathroom with shower. One of the rooms will be double-occupancy, the other will be single-occupancy. Each mini-suite will be single gender. Towle was recently renovated and features contemporary architecture with polished concrete, glass, and abundant natural light. APARRI participants who select dorm housing must commit to lodging for all three nights (check-in: June 20, checkout: June 23). For the three-night stay, double-occupancy rooms are $210 and single rooms are $315.

You must register for dorm housing by May 15, 2023.

Bancroft Hotel: The Bancroft Hotel is a 5-minute walk away (for most guests) from the Faculty Club. We’ve reserved a limited number of rooms from June 20-23 at a special rate of $169 plus tax/night. Room rates include breakfast at the hotel. Guests who select this option should make their own arrangements directly by calling the Bancroft Hotel and identifying themselves as part of the “Asian Research Initiative Conference” for the special rate. Note that in order to get this special rate you must reserve by calling the hotel, and not through the website, by May 20.

Thanks to the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation and UC Berkeley, APARRI will be offering a limited number of scholarships for 3 nights lodging in a shared dorm room, double-occupancy, and/or plane travel, with priority given to graduate students who present at the conference. Funding may be possible for others (independent scholars, faculty), though we encourage anyone with institutional support to access those resources first.

  • APARRI will support travel to the conference by reimbursing up to $550 the cost of an economy plane ticket to the Bay Area that has been purchased at least 21 days in advance. We are not able to reimburse any other travel-related expenses.
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in the full conference.
  • Individuals with accepted papers and proposals will be notified by April 21, 2023.
  • If attendance is contingent on a scholarship, please apply for the scholarship and wait to hear the results before registering for the conference and housing.
  • Applying for a scholarship does not register you for the conference. You must register separately for the conference and housing.
